    Question for knife makers

How do you guys keep the blades from rusting once you finish them? Does polishing help or do you still have to coat them with something?

The blades Im making are from an old mill saw blade, so its very hard, has a high carbon content, and a good amount of nickle in it.

    What do you suggest?

I'm a knife user not a maker, but on the damascus and older high-carbon knifes I have, after using and washing and towel drying I spray a spot of Pam on the blade and rub it into both sides with my finger and put them into the sheath. Never been a problem.

Polishing does help. A coat of Rennaissance Wax is also helpful, or mineral oil.
