    Ozonate Clothes?

With all the ozonic discussions not only made me want to buy one but reminded me that I have an ozonator. I use it specifically for vehicles that have had a water leak or went through high water and soaked the carpet to remove mildew smells. It works really well in a confined space where no fresh oxygen is present, like doors and windows up and fresh air vents closed. Was told it removes oxygen and in turn kills the bacteria causing odors. And it works!

Soooooo....I washed my clothes and have all my gear in my hunting closet with the ozonator. If anyone has ever smelled it, it's like a deathly clean smell (very strong). I hope I didn't just ruin all my clothes. Just looking for some scientific advise and reassurance? Is this the same principles of the ozonics?

I use an ozone generator in my hunting cloths storage boxes. I also have a battery powered unit that I keep in each of my blinds so the deer get used to that strong ozone smell.

I used to have a home 110 volt machine, I might try this, too.

Quick clairification - I leave a small ozone generation unit in all of my stands that runs every evening at 5:30 for 30 minutes even when I'm not there. It keeps the deer used to the ozone smell.

A bit of cautionary advice on treating clothes with Ozone, is that a high dose for a short amount of time is better than a prolonged exposure at lower levels.

The first place you will notice degradation of your garments is those areas that were not dry at the time of exposure to ozone and elastics. Lower grade elastomers will breakdown (become oxidized, same effect as an old rubber band) more quickly than cottons, polyester or nylon.

Basic rule of thumb: if you can smell Ozone in the clothes then you have treated them long enough. Ozone and the bacterial odor can not exist together. Ozone wins the battle if the ozone molecules out number the scent molecules.

As for Deer getting used to the smell of Ozone:

Our testing shows that the consentrations of Ozone is near ambient within 10 yards of the output of the types of units being discussed here, in an open air environment.

In an enclosed space the concentration will wane at the beginning as all of the surfaces and airborn particulates are oxidized. Then, the concentration will stabilize to near the output of the unit. Unless, new contaminates are introduced.

Normally, I run my ozonics in the closet for 5 hours on high setting until the battery depletes. If the clothes break down, I'll buy new ones.

For my clothes I'm using the ScentMaster Box.. Russ know I like the ozonics machine and believe in it for the woods but my clothes I prefer a different approach for several reasons and the ScentMaster Box is working out well..

Did you place the unit over the spill area and did you leave a window open?
