don't have any acorns in my little hunting area of east texas this year.....but deer will certainly go for them over corn......i have taken acorns out of my yard before and but them in the woods and they sat there until the rot....have talked to other people that have done it and the deer ate them as soon as they hit the ground

The live oak acorns on our place in Kerr county are greatly reduced from earlier in October because of the drill weevils. Out of the 20 acorns I picked up on Saturday and split open, only 1 was "good". The others were black dust or had weevils in them and the fleshy insides almost gone. Thats the good news.

The bad news is that we have clover already growing from the rain and lots of other browse good and green. I watched a couple deer eat some blue flowery plants for an hour on Saturday afternoon.

Rut is the only thing getting the deer to move at this point it seems.

We have very few oaks at my lease. But I am covered up with live oaks at my home. So, I've taken bags of acorns to the lease a couple of times. The hogs jump all over the acorns so quickly that there is never time for the deer to get a taste of them.

Our feeders have been ghost towns until this past weekend. Don't really understand it, still waist high in acorns but they came running to the feeders when they would spin.

I've got corn feeders and 8 acres of food plots that are up and beautiful with 8 different seed blends. Deer are staying in the woods.

corn is recognized by deer as a non-essential source of calories. they naturally are attracted to food sources that provide nutrients and protein. most years the corn is attractive due to the lack of choices, but not this year. once we have a herd frost, the feeders should be more active, unless your post oaks also have acorns. ours don't so we should get better and better soon.

Cows love acorns and the tannin in them will kill a cow. I've already lost one $2,000 angus. Takes about 12 days. Only thing you can do is start feeding hay and sack feed to keep em off the acorns. I have about 30 acres allisha patch with about 30 100 year old pin oaks on it. I heavly fertilize this place every spring for the bermudda grass and them oaks like it too. Saw 2 nice bucks there yesterday morning and this morning saw 2 bucks and 6 doe all eating acorns
