    Question

So, I've been asked my opinion regarding a lease that is in two counties. According to regulations by TPWD, you can take a buck in one county, and a buck in another county. If you have a lease that encompasses two counties, can you take a buck from the lease that is in one county, and then move to the other side of the lease which is in the other county and take a buck? We are not talking about lease rules and such, just the regulations.

    Thanks

Yes you can. the county where you shot it counts not the recovery county.

I would think that as long as you're on the other side of the county line it's all good. But I could be wrong......

I can't tell you for sure but my inclination is that you could actually kill two bucks off the lease BUT you would have to kill one of them in a part that was one county and the other buck inside the other county. It's a great question. The ranch I work for is in 2 counties but, luckily, they're 3 buck counties.

I'll be curious to see if anyone knows 100% for sure. A quick call to TPWD tomorrow would give you a definite answer.

Good question....... Hopefully someone else can chime in. After I shoot a big one in my area, we can just trade spots

Yes, you can. You have 3 buck tags on your license to use in Texas. As long as you are within the bag limit of the county you are hunting in, you are fine. If you are talking about Jack and Young County, you could kill a 13"+ wide buck in Jack, a 13"+ wide in Young, and kill your "at least 1 unbranched antler" deer in either of those counties. Or, you can go to another county and kill another 13"+ wide buck. Same thing with does. As long as you have tags and are within county regs, you are fine.

You do have to fill out the harvest log on the back of your license, so the warden knows you are within the county regs when you are missing 2 buck tags, and have your 3rd tag on a buck in a 2 buck county (like Young). Don't forget to check the little star box also if it's your 13"+ buck.

            Have fun.

I always thought it went by the county that the majority of the lease is in, but I hope I am wrong

State doesn't care where your lease is (as long as you are legally entitled to be wherever you are). They only care where your feet are planted when you let the arrow fly.

Yes you can. I am on a lease that is in 2 counties that are 1 buck counties. I asked the game biologist and the GW, both said yep it's legal.

Our lease is split by the Kent/Stonewall County line and we can take one buck in Kent and another in Stonewall as both are 1 buck counties.

This is acceptable. Taught this for quite some time. If in doubt, call a game warden as they will know. Cheers!
