Shane is 12 and this is his first time hunting as a shooter.
We were hunting on our property just West of Giddings.
Saturday morning he took aim at a spike, but it never gave him a clean shot so he passed. (he had a good teacher; me).
He was "tired" Saturday afternoon, so we went Sunday afternoon.
After watching a few does and a spike, they left and this 9 walked out.
I checked him and determined he was legal, so I told Shane to wait for a broadside. When he turned Shane waited for him to take a step and move the close leg forward.
Put a good shot just behind the shoulder with my 243. He ran about 100yds, stopped and went down the creek.
We waited a few minutes then went to find him. A good blood trail, and I sent Shane ahead (I already spotted him, but I wanted Shane to "find" his deer.)
I left him with it to fill out the tag as I went to get the truck. The buck was a heavy one, especiall for Lee County.
A couple of pics from the phone, then spent a few hrs of work.
That boy was tired when I took him to his Mom's.
Shane told his dad that he wants to mount it (now he knows what to get him for Christmas).
You only get your first deer once.
