    Cows coming...

Just heard this past weekend that our landowner is putting some cows on the property we lease. What's the best set-up y'all have to keep cows out of your set-up?

My buddy has his feeder back in the woods, so stringing some barbed wire between trees is an easy solution for him, but my feeder is out in the pasture. Cattle panels with t-posts? Anybody have a cheap source?

Our cows don't mess with the feeders when putting out corn, but protein...that's a different story! They will tear up a feeder to get to the protein and corn mix.

      Raise it up
Put strong leg brackets on it
      Pen it.

      They WILL plan an attack.
They DO know what they are doing.

cows WILL go after corn. Been there, done that. And they will go after single kernals too. Had them go after hand tossed corn at my current lease.

So far, knock on wood, 3 strands of barbed wire has kept them out but if they really want in they'll get to it...

I keep mine high with a 12 volt motor, spreads the corn out. Never had a problem with cows.

I guess it depends on how much they have to eat on the place. So far this year apparently the deer also have plenty to eat too.

Put up panels and t-post around it.
              The cattle shouldn't bother it.
We have 67 head where I hunt and they could care less about the feeder cause they can't get near it

Cows some times are a real headache in hunting grounds,

I remember sitting on a high tripod and be shaken like a tree limb when a big bull came out of the brush and started scratching it`s back agains one of the tripod`s leg! man that was scary! luckyly the tripod was tied to a big huizache`s limb and anchored straight down in the ground by a big steel stake otherwise!

I shouted him, throwed my hunting bag down to he`s big head and he just turned up, saw me and continued!

That could be one of the most hillarious hunting videos ever taken but I was lucky enough not to have any witness aroud jajajajajaja

                Have a good one

I pound in 6' steel rods at each leg of my feeder and wrap it with wire so the cows can't tip it over (has happened before). The cows at my place don't seem to be really interested in eating the corn but they'll crowd the feeder and mill around when it goes off, keeping the deer at bay. I've even taken a slingshot to my tree stand and launched marbles to shoo away the cows.

We had sucker rod on the ranch. So I put 4 T-post for corners and tied sucker rod to them at about 2 foot off the ground. it works so far.

I have 3-sided barbed wire feeder pens around my feeders-either 2 or 3-strands.

I also carry my flipper/slingshot and a handful of 1/4 or 5/16" nuts from the bulk hardware section at TSC. I can sting 'em out to about 40 yards and usually they leave after 2 shots.

Get a couple salt blocks and set them out away from your hunting area. DO NOT put them around your set up (this is the voice of experience speaking). If you don't have a slingshot or BB gun, load your pockets with rocks on the way to the stand. You will need them if the cows figure out about the corn/feeder (and they will). I get personal satisfaction when I connect with their thick head bone. It makes a nice "thunk" sound.
