I wear a cheap pair of rubber boots from tractor supply, no keeping them in a special place, stepping in manure or anything like that. I have watched a deer walk 150yds down the same path I walked in on and not scent me as well as watch numerous other deer and pigs cross my trail and never alarm.

Some peoples feet and legs just leave more scent than others. I wear athletic shoes to the stand when it's warm, some times my slip on Wolverine work boots and never have a problem with deer scenting where I walk. I've never owned a pair of rubber boots.
My friend Tom has always had a problem with deer smelling his tracks. He has tried rubber boots, snake boots and muck lucs, all with the same problem. He even puts scent on them and they still nail him. Even though I can't smell him, the deer sure can. He is a pretty clean guy so I don't think it's a hygeine problem.

I've not been busted on a trail, that I know of anyway, but my lease manager says he has several times. He told me a couple weeks ago that he has started putting small kitchen sized trash bags over his boots and tying them on with a small bungee strap just below the knee, in the notch between your knee and calf. Said he watched deer walk right over his trail and not notice it.
