My buddies grandpa showed us how to do it just as the previous post said to but he instructed us to cut the string(lack of a better word) as close to the sack as you can. Not sure why but that's what we did.

We do it with boars all the time at the ranch. They grow fast and put the ivory on. We got a few that have been cut for 3 yrs now and are well over 300 pounds with 3-4" cutters. It don't take long with practice.

Be careful, I did this once on a young piglet and found the skin very soft, after the cut he sucked em back in, squealing like a banshee...As I dug for them...couldn't give up, the incision split open wider and wider... Could have thrown him off the roof and he would have floated down like he had his own parachute. I was beside myself. My first surgery and I thought I had killed him...called my dad, and asked him what to do. He said pack it with mud and through him back in the pin, he'll make it, or not.

He lived for another 6 months and then died tragically, but that's another story

Well, with the help of my brother and dad, I was able to get it done the other day.
The hardest part was catching him and throwing him over. After that, with my brother and dad holding him on his side, wasn't too much too it. I feel like I might have made the cuts a little bigger than needed, but it seems to be doing fine now.
Thanks for the imput and offers of help.

My dad told me long ago that when his dad did this by himself, he'd cut the hog, bite them out with his teeth, and then spit! I'm glad I didn't grow up to be a pig farmer . . .

Helped my grandpa do this once when visiting. X1000 on earplugs never something could make such a noise. We used a table in an x shape to hold the hogs. He could do it by himself but was showing me how to do it...still not interested.

Couldn't even tell ya how many I did.
                      This...

We used to hold them upside down with their front feet on the ground. That way the teacher wouldnt have to bend over. My brother is an AG teacher in Medina county. He is very serious about checking the moon before doing it. He says you should never castrate on a full moon. Not sure why.
