    gunsmith question

    i have a 1911 black finish shoots great nothing wrong with it but every time i take it out wether i shoot it or not i have to clean it or it will rust bad any thing i can do to control the rust

    Have a different finish put on it. Some perople persperation is acidic enough to cause this. Not much you can do.

          You can buy diy kits from brownells or midway for around 30 bucks. Have you tried wiping the gun with a thin coat of oil before you store it? Where do you store it? Do you use any sort of moisture inhibitor?

            check Robar- MP3 coating- I got mine done 10 years ago and still holding up great and it is carried daily.

              All you can do is change the finish, or move to Arizona.

                Lots of rust proof finishes to choose from. Hardchrome, birdsong black-T, Robar, Ionbond pvd, etc...all costing around $200.
