How to introduce my granddaughter to our lifestyle?

My daughter and (my only) granddaughter are coming to stay with me at my hunting ranch this weekend for some long overdue girl time. My granddaughter is almost 3 and both of them are city girls.

I have not spent any time with my granddaughter since she was a baby, so I am pretty naive about what is appropriate to expose her to at this age. My daughter is very pro-hunting, so nothing is off the table. I have 18 acres full of deer and turkeys, a stock tank full of fish... Feeders, blinds, trailcams, a fourwheeler, archery range... you know... all the stuff you'd find on a hunting ranch.

My daughter is going to give me my space and time for dawn and dusk hunting. I assume I should go by myself. But if I bring back a deer will my granddaughter flip out?

So give me some pointers! Should I teach her to fish? Is she too young for a kiddie bow? Can a 3 year old understand why we hunt? Help me out Brothers!

I'd definitely spend some quality time down at that stock tank, and let her catch all the perch she can handle! Unforgettable memories and so much fun.

My guess is the girls will lead you in the way you should go. Let 'em have fun. Whatever direction it takes. My $0.02.

Indeed. I remember blue gill fishin with my grandparents. Some of the most fond memories I have. As far as the deer goes.. Play it by ear. See about cleaning some fish.. If she freaks out, I'd wait a little while longer. Baby steps.

Snoopy pole and four wheeler rides sound great! Is it okay to clean fish in front of here? I think the answer is yes.

I learned a lesson this summer about teachin kids to fish. My city nephews who are 4 and 7 brought there rod n reels. It was a disaster. Went next day and got two cane poles and some weinies. That was all it took to get them hooked. They had a blast once i just made it simple.

I have pics of my almost 3 year old with some of the deer I've shot. He was a bit unsure what to think at first, but as long as it's presented in a favorable manner, then you shouldn't have to worry.

I posed a similar question earlier this year. My daughter is 4 and I've brought her hunting a few times but never shot anything on purpose. This past weekend my friend shot a doe. She watched us clean it and didn't really think much of it. I was surprised at how well she took it.

What kind of conversation took place while you cleaned it?
