I wouldn't do it. Not only are the vitals smaller(frontal angle) but the deer most likely will jump the string(facing&detecting you) and you will hit muscle /shoulder without recovering. Whitetail tend to pull to one side when jumping the string-this alone will throw your point of impact into a full blown disaster, making you wish you never took the shot.

Not an ethical shot with a bow, leaves no room for error.

I'm recalling the thread with a Youtube link of a year or two ago. Female bowhunter shot an Alaskan Black Bear head on at 18 yds. The animal turned, and tumbled after (an unknown yardage) sprint. I didn't hear too many complaints about that shot.

          Edit: here's the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaEBK...has_verified=1

I seen Stan Potts do it with the Heli-m on a big bull elk and thought he was one of the dumbest people for it. Not necessarily because of the shot, it did bring down the bull, but because he did it on national TV where someone that doesn't have the shooting ability he does is gonna get the bright idea that kinda shot will bring down anything. I wouldn't take the shot in my opinion, I have seen it bring down animals, but it's not a practical shot. I have been wanting to try the Rage Chisel tip on a shot like this on a pig though, just to test out their advertising of how it can get thru bone.

I have done it before. I shot a fallow doe last year with that shot and she was done within 30 yards with an arrow right through the center of her heart. I wouldn't try it out of an elevated stand, but from the ground I will take that shot.

IMO it is the fact that IF the arrow comes out, what would the blood trail be like? A dead deer is not good if it cannot be found. With a rifle, you'r not looking for an exit woulnd and a great blood trail, your counting on the bullet knocking the deer off it's feet for a DRT. Those are my thoughts, will it kill, yes, but will you be able to recover the animal?

I just wanna see this Ethics Book myself. I wouldnt take that shot but i have no place telling you where to shoot your deer. Like AJ said. It worked on a Grizz. Some people think bowhunting is unethical. Ive seen people say rifle hunters are. Seen people say it about neck shots. Saw other people turn around and say it about boiler room shots cuz it ruins meat. Most of the time the Ethic Police, ill shut up. My view. I cant speak for anyone else.

I wouldnt take a head on shot but I did see my buddy do it on a doe a few weeks ago. She didnt go far and he got his arrow while gutting her.

Just not a shot Im comfortable with, though it worked out for him.

                          i have with a rifle, i personally wouldn't with a bow.

the buck i shot was during the rut. sucker was all over the place and came up a hill straight at me trying to figure out what the heck i was.

I hit him in the chest and he back flipped.

Just curious why some would take this shot on a pig and not a deer? Ethical is ethical, shouldn't matter the game animal. That being said if you feel you can make the shot take it. If not don't. Same as any hunting situation really.
