Check with some PDs or hospitals staff. The switching from days to nights and back isn't good for you, health wise. 12 hour shifts are dangerous in that fatigue sets in after 8 to 10 hours and most people aren't able to adjust and be alert that long (speaking from a LEO experience). Add to that the switching from days and nights too quickly just adds to the problem.

Apparently I work the DuPont schedule also (didn't realize that's what it was called). I really like it. As a 24 year old guy, it gives me tons of time off to do what I want and typically nights and weekends aren't too hectic, so in a given month, you may end up with only 5 bad days. You do miss several holidays a year and events and things on weekends, however the holiday pay makes up for it and if the events are important enough, well, that's why you get days off. After being on shift work 2 years, our department started a 7 week, M-F regular schedule to rotate one of us out at a time for field training and personally, I really didn't like it. When you get used to having 3-4 days off to get things done, cutting it down to only 2 days really is a disappointment to me.
I never thought I'd enjoy shift work, but I'm used to it and really enjoy it right now.
