So my son is sitting in a 1 man tree stand with me in a pop-up at the base of the tree. Is just like all of our previous E Texas hunts, NADA! At 10:00 I text him to see if he wants to head in, and he text back "no". Heck, if the kid wants to sit all day, then lets do it. A couple of minutes later, he text me that he sees two deer. I get out my binos and nothing. I'm looking at a draw about 100 yds away. The feeder at 50 yds is vacant. I search for a while and I see nothing. He text me back and said that maybe they walked off. Yeah right, I know all he saw was a shadow. I can see him looking through his scope. I'm still glassing out to 100 yds towards the draw when all of a sudden "boom". Scared the you know what out of me because there are NO deer. I turn and catch something out of the corner of my eye. Sure enough, it was a doe running off from just behind the feeder. How did I not see her? I asked him if he shot at that doe, and he said, "no sir, I shot at that big buck standing in front of her". How did I miss him too??? Looked for a long time, and never bothered to check the feeder only 50 yds in front of me. I guess I'm getting old. No blood, so I think it was a clean miss. Hit a limb I guess. Oh well. Maybe next time. I'm just glad he saw deer.
