I'm surprised I've only heard one shot. Having a hard time not letting kid shoot a deer. Had several chances just not what we're looking for. Bet I'll hear a lot more next weekend.

they ought to be doing good. its COLD here! my boy had a 3 year old deer with a 10" spread come in. he couldnt quite shakeing and i LOVED it!!!! he understood why he couldnt shoot it though. it was still a blast.

Im happy and sad at the same time. Happy that there are youths in the field sad that my Baby boy ain't a youth anymore. Last year was the last youth hunt for him.

I hear them almost every morning I hunt. Not sure what they are doing.

I too am hoping they were ALL for the kids. Surely no adults would abuse this weekend with some early trigger time and using their kids as props. Kinda like bringing a girlfriend and/or wife for extra tags just kidding (well actually where I grew up in east texas this often occurred - and still does to certain extent).

Anyway - your thread got me to thinking about opening weekend in cass county about 2 years ago. I lost count on shots fired. It was a gauntlet. Shots going off on all 4 sides of me. Reminded me of driving across rollover pass and thinking no way a fish could swim through without getting foul hooked. Same with the deer. It was worst ever. Last year in caldwell county it was pretty bad a few weekend. In my head I had to think it was hogs being shot.

Hope there were some first kills for the kiddos and can't wait till my daughter is old enough to go with me.

Man...I'm stuck in Tucson on a project. I missed the dove season, now October is about gone, my buddies will be heading to Kansas next week for our annual trip and I'll miss that...I hope I get home for some hunting soon!
