    Peanut Butter as an Attractant?

An older co-worker was telling yesterday about how he used to lure a lot of deer in to his area with peanut butter back when he hunted all the time. He would fill it in to a sock and cut a small hole in the bottom and then hang it from a tree about level with a deer's nose.

Anyone ever heard of this or am I pretty gullible?

Yes sir. My FIL uses it. He buys the cheapest PB he can find, says the more oil in it the better. Takes the cap off, screws it to a tree about head high to a deer, then screws the jar of PB back on to the cap and cuts the bottom out of the jar.

I've been using jars of peanut butter for years and it works.

I take a whole jar and cut about a 3rd of the bottom out. I take the lid and screw it into a tree or fence post use 2 screws so it doesn't spin. Then I simply screw the jar back on to the secured lid. The deer can lick out the peanut butter, out of the hole in the bottom. I've watched them do it. At my place a jar doesn't last more than a week of so. I buy the cheap stuff and hang it high enough so hogs cant get to it.

SSSHHHHHHH!..Dont tell anyone its a well kept secret!

Darn coons will stand on their head to get to it. I have seen many a fight on my cameras between coons trying to get to the jar. Going to try it at my new place in Leakey. It does work and the cheaper the better.

I didn't believe it till I tried it. Took em a couple of days, but then once they got the taste of it a jar will last about 2-3 days. The first time they hit it there was a deep tongue mark right in the middle of it. Looked funny.
