Go pro VS. standard video camera

Trying to decide which on will give better chance filming hunts. What do y'all use? What are the pros and cons of each?

    Thanks

I'll be following this one. Very good question. It looks like the GoPro has more mounting options, but I can buy 3 video cameras for the price of one.

Should be some good info here....

GoPro's are best for POV or reverse POV shots. Lots of mounting options and slow-mo action.

You can't zoom in with a GoPro and the microphone isn't all that great.

Really depends on what you're trying to do.

gopro is a good second camera but with no zoom capability it simply isn't flexible enough for me as a primary camera. I do really like them but if your talking about video of hunts, bdays, family events a regular camera should be your first purchase.

as a second camera . . . . then the possibilities get crazy for some wild shot angles.

Right now I have one regular video camera and it is the Sony handycam. I like how small and compact it is. I was just curious in what people thought was btr.

This. No zoom. But the reverse is impressive on the gopro. Get yourself a Sony. Great cameras with zoom and get the one with low lux. I can get good video pretty late in the day. The gopro I didn't use much but it's a great little camera with good video quality. It's application specific.

This sums it up. GoPro is awesome for secondary footage to compliment a standard video camera. Sony, Panasonic, JVC...lots of fairly inexpensive, decent quality options for video cameras. Depending on your primary usage (web output? family video? DVDs for friends? Television production?), different features and options may or may not be important. Generally speaking for hunting, low light performance will be fairly critical.

I'm using Kodak play sport zx5 its compact, waterproof, shockproof, and dust proof. I like it. All my vids from lately on YT have been shot using this except last vid was iPhone. It uses SDHC card. Same as sd but high def. it's also a full 1080 HD. Runs for four hours on one charge. It's about 149 retail. I got it on sale for 99.00. Can't beat that.

My old JVC HD from ten years old died on me. That's why I bought this until I can afford better one.

I have both cameras. The go pro is great for simplicity and the Sony is good for all around use.
The sony needs a tripod and setting it up for use and catching the shot can be troublesome at times. Sometimes you need to concentrate on the shot and the gopro lets you do that. I just take both out to the blind and use whichever one will give me the best video and still be able to make the shot.

Do the handycams have remotes so you can turn them on and get it recording without messing with camera?

A camera with a good optical zoom and good low light capabilities is what you need for filming hunts....I agree with what had been stated above.

Any suggestions on a good low light camera?
