Has anybody ever tried using one of these? How do they work? ((pardon the ignorance))

My buddy got one a couple of years ago. We tried it a few times with no luck. One night sitting up on a scaffold over looking a bated barrel of corn we used it to just kill some time. The very last call we did with it before we got down, a loud responce came from 100 yards behind us. Then all of a sudden a group of 20 or 30 came in at a full run. Straight to the barrel they went and started eating. I think the hogs thought another group beat them to the dinner table. Ended up getting blinded by our spotlight and missed. oh well. only real luck I ever had with one. I think it could work if you used it at the right place at the right time. We went over board a few times

Having called hogs, I can tell you that it seems to work best when you find a sounder with small to mediam sized pigs. I guess the ole Sow thinks that one of them has been caught by something. When she comes, you had better be ready, as she is mad as a hornet.
I have found that with larger hogs, they tend to "get out of dodge" when you call at them. There have been a few cases when the larger ones would come in, but that is the exception.
In calling hogs, you need to hold the squeel note longer than you do when using the dying rabbit sound. The pig squeal is longer and louder than a dying rabbit. The pig squeal does not fade to a different note at the end, but just cuts off. Then you need to squeal again the same way over and over. Hope this helps a little. Good hunting
