    polaris ranger issues

I bought a ranger 850 about 4 months ago. First time out to the lease, it overheated due to an air bubble, understandable. So, I filled her up to the top.

3 months of no issues until this weekend. It overheated again; so I did the same and added more coolant. Checked for leaks, but there is none.

I did notice my fan isn't kicking on all the time once the temperature gets to 200 or so.

    Thermostat issues maybe?

Anyone else ever had this problem?

Recommended repair steps? (Other than the dealer which is 4 hours away)

For what you paid for it. TAKE IT BACK and make them do their job.

Call the dealer prolly has to do with the fan not kicking on. But u shouldn't be having to add coolant at all. How much are u having to add even over the couple month period?

I am fighting the same issues with my 800, I have not found the fix yet. I will update if I do.

My Predators fan was set to kick on at 210F. I ran water wetter in min and the temps stayed down. I agree, I would go to the dealer and have them pressure test the system. As far as the fans go, I would think as long as the fans kick on above 210, it would be normal.

My fan runs a lot on my 800. Sounds like the issue is there if your fan doesn't run much. I would take back and have them find the problem.

Im not familiar with these but i would think it should not exceed 210 and should maintain just over 185. When you say it overheated, you mean it boiled over and spewed out coolant?

I think if you open the radiator cap, while it is cold, and watch inside after it warms up, you could see the coolant circulation inside, otherwise you may have a pump problem.

And, make sure you dont have any blockage in front of your radiator to restrict the airflow. That's all i got.

I have an 800 and have not had issues but a buddy of mine had one that had this same problem a lot. Take it to the dealer as your factory warranty is only 6 months. I took the plastic side covers from the wheel wells off of mine so I could get in there better with a water hose to keep the radiator fins clean.

Make sure the radiator isn't plugged with mud of sand, my fans come on at 206 and cools down till 196 or 194

Not sure what the source of your problem is, but I know overheating can cause water pump problems. It shows up in the plastic impleller or the gasket.

you should not have to add coolant.

When I say overheated, I mean spewing water out.

Sometimes the fan will come on and sometimes it won't. Very strange.
Sure don't feel like hauling it back 4 hours though!

The fan is a common Polaris problem.

Maybe it's as simple as a bad connection. Try tracing your fan wiring. Disconnect and reconnet the connectors just to make sure they are all the way in. Do the same to your relays in your fuse box area. If some of your relays are identical, you can try swapping them with each other. You may have a sticking relay that affects your inconsistent fan operation. Do the same for the sensor and temperatature sending unit just to make sure the connections are firm. Look for corrosion while they are disconnected, it will cause a faulty operation.

Was the overflow filled up as well? At what temp did your fan kick on?
