Do axis deer make a calling noise? We are at some friends in Boerne and she says that the noise we are hearing is Axis deer. I've never been around them so I don't know.

Yes they have a bugle type squeel. -
Yes, the males will make a repeated screaming noise. The females will make some sort of chirping noise.Comment

Males and females make an alarm CHIRP! Almost like a short whistling snort. If you've read any books about tiger hunting in India (Maneaters of Kumaon by J. Corbett for example) you'll hear it described as "barking" by the chital deer--or axis as we know them.Comment
