Ive seen a gut shot doe run for 600 yards with guts dragging the ground. Crawl under a fence and cross the hwy. Crawl under a fence on the other side and kept on trucking. All while her guts were dragging the ground.
When there adrenaline is high and they are not bleeding out then yes they can travel a good ways.
I killed a 8.5 year old buck in 2010. When I dressed him he had a 100gr Muzzy and about 6 inches of arrow between his shoulder and ribcage that was totally encased and had been there for a long time. The deer showed absolutely no sign of injury and was extremely healthy.
Upon closer examination, the arrow had entered right at the top of his off side shoulder and gone right through his boiler room before being stopped by the opposite shoulder. The hunter that shot him would have had no doubt he made a perfect shot. I had already field dressed him the evening before I found the arrow so i couldnt complete the autopsy but according to the arrow path it should have been double lung!
I have said it before and will say it again: I am always reluctant when I hear "kill shot or I smoked him." I find that more often than not most archers in the heat of the moment (including myself) really miscall where they hit a deer. I have trailed a gun shot deer over 3 miles in the dark without a dog down in Encinal one blood drop at a time only to find he was just wounded. I ended up putting him down with my pistol.
Yes it can happen and will.

Whoa!! now thats tough. Sure poo poo's some peoples theories on boiler room shots. thanks!!!!
I've shot a 7pt with a broke leg on video through both lungs... Zero blood we found the deer 400 yards from where I shot him by a water tank.. I cleaned him and I did In fact hit both lungs!! That is the day I decided to use a different broad head
Oh yeah, I put my catahoula on a track and had blood for 2.79 miles per GPS, blood stopped and the deer showed back up at the same guys feeder 3 weeks later with a hole high in the shoulder. Blood was very visable for the majority of the track.
