    Truck not starting

I parked my old truck for a few weeks, went to start it, and it cranks, but will not fire (unless I use starter fluid).
I figured it would be the fuel pump, replaced that as well as the filter. Wasn't the problem, any clues?

It's a 2002 f150 with about 220k on it. It'll start up with starter fluid, but acts like it's not getting fuel.

Cranks with fluid. You have spark and air. Got a fuel problem.

No fuel pressure. Check the fuel pump relay

only thing it can be is fuel you already proved that with starting fluid take the line off the fuel pump see if it is pumping ...just a process of elimination.

My thoughts exactly. Check your fuel lines. Start at the fuel pump and see if your getting any juice and then start tracing all lines and wires to the engine.

Does it die after starting it with starting fluid? If so My boat was doing the same thing a while back. It was bad gas. This new gas with ethynol goes bad quick. It can evaporate and cause water to get into the fuel. You can pull a fuel line and see what the gas smells like. My boat gas did not smell like gas at all. I drained the tank, put in fresh fuel and she fired right up.

Sounds like an intake issue since you obviously have compression, power and exhaust strokes. I'd start there and check everything fuel related.

X2. If she has been sitting for a while you may have some bad gas. Maybe water in the fuel.

The gas might be three weeks old, smelt like regular gas when I changed the fuel pump and the in line filter.

I will pull the hose and crank it and see if gas is coming out of the pump. Is there a chance that the new pump might be bad?

It could very well be a dumb mouse chewing the wires, I will also look for that as well.

How would I check for power to the fuel pump to check if the new pump is/is not bad?

Have some one turn the key on but dont start it. Listen to see if the fuel pump turns on and primes itself. If you dont hear anything, then you can you a test light on the fuel pump wire harness to see if its getting power.

when you turn the key on it should power the fuel pump and reprime itself so pull the output side line and turn the key see what happens.
