    Refrigeration Help

Can anyone tell me what I can use to put a charge of freon in my walk in cooler at the lease? It says it has R-12 in it now on a yellow sticker on the expansion valve? Thanks so much.

You need a set of gauges and a bottle of R12

They make drop in replacements for R12. I think you can also get the stuff at an autoparts store you can just add into the system. I believe we used to replace it with R409a. It has been awhile though. Make sure you have a manifold guage set. Charge into the suction line until you get a clear sight glass. That is a general method of course but if you have an expansion valve I am sure you have a reciever to hold the extra freon.

R134 is the replacement for R12 but you can't mix them. R12 is expensive. Cars that took R12 have retrofit kits to R134a. I have one small can of it but it was for a car. I would have to check onto it a little more. The oil has to be compatible of you use something else or will ruin the compressor.

The replacement stuff is called Freeze 12. I have never used it but I seen it out there.
