    308 sub sonic load

finally got my YHM 762 can in and want to start working up some loads for it. Mostly looking for hunting loads. using a savage 20 inch 1/10 barrel. I was thinking of trying titegroup and trailboss pwoder. Anyone want to share your load data and what bullets seem to work the best for you?

I have found a few that I like:
168 gr bullet over 8 grains of Titegroup= 1060 FPS in my Rem. 700
220 gr bullet over 9 grains of IMR 4227= 1090 FPS in same gun. I started at 7.5 grains of powder on this one and worked my way up. I would suggest you do the same.

Be careful using 220 grain bullets in a 1/10 twist barrel. It may not stabilize them and you could get a baffle strike. Try them on a target with the suppressor removed first.

I was thinking the same thing about the 200 plus bullets and not stabilizing. Think i might start out with 168 or 180 gr bullet. You running the round nose or something like a-max/SMK? I have been reading on sinper hide and a lot of guys use round nose bec they say they do better in the wind. i would think maybe better expansion on impact too.

              was the can expensive?

As soon as my AAC 7.62 SDN Can comes in I'm going to shoot the subsonic loads from HSM until I have enough brass or buy enough brass to load myself.

$200 to BATFE and then the price of the can.

Silenced America has about the best price of anyone out there. I paid $860 for my AAC Can. Right now he is running them on sale for $810.

I'm about to by a .22 can from him as well.

As far as bullets, I prefer round nose over pointy ones for subsonic work. There was a study done that showed the pointy bullets tended to push organs and vessels out of the way when the round nosed bullets pushed though the organs.

Shooting an animal with a suppressed rifle is like shooting them with a bow, shot placement is the key since the bullet will not expand at subsonic speeds.

Trailboss is my choice 9.2 grains. I am steady at 1010 fps with 220 round nose. I would start high and work down. Shooting a bullet and sticking it in the barrel is not a good thing especially if you don't know if it stayed in there or not. To check for stabilization I put cardboard about a foot or so in front of the barrel and looked for any oblong hits instead of nice round little 308 holes. Where do you live? May be able to help you out if needed.

it's the $200 ATF tax stamp fee and about 7 month wait time for approval.

Outlaw state bullets claim they will expand but the are not cheap.

Thanks for the info guys and thanks ZFX offering to help! I think I got a plan now but need to order some bullets 1st.

does ATF require a separate $200 tax stamp for each can?
or is it a $200 users tax and you can have multiple cans for one filing?
