Hunter Safety Class Question......I'm too lazy to research

I checked TPWD web site and couldn't find the answer....exactly, 'cause I got tired of checking

My wife is exempt from the Safety Course (born in 69). She has a younger girlfriend (who is an adult....mid 30's) that decided that she wants to hunt a WT doe this year but doesn't have her safety course yet, so here it is.......

If my wife sits with her friend, like we do with our young kids, does the friend need the Safety Course ?

Yes. Over 17 needs it regardless of who they are with. She can get a 1 year deferral of the course when she buys her license for $10 then she can hunt with someone who has taken hunters ed or is exempt, like your wife. So yes she does need it, but she can get away without it this year if she is with your wife.

you can waive the safety course for one year. She will need to have it in order to re-new next year.

All she needs is a hunting license.

Yes. What you are talking about only applies to someone under 17. Just have her girlfriend go get her hunters ed deferral so she can try out hunting this year. it will allow her a yar to figure out if she wants to hunt long term and take the class.

Why not have her take the hunter safety course, and/or the NBEF Bowhunter Education course as a 'condition' of taking her hunting? Knowledge is good and builds safe hunters.

Glad you have woman in Texas who hunt, and want to hunt!
