I am trying to be creative (and I generally think with the mind of someone who is primarily feeding cattle). What are some substitute feeds for deer? I could see this being an issue for some people (myself included).
I heard cottonseed on another thread for muleys? I am assuming whitetail will eat cottonseed. (?) Will deer eat soybean hulls? Are any of the substitutes any more cost effective than corn?
Also, I am guess most everybody is using feeders so any type of mash or distillers waste would not work. (?)

I know deer will eat cotton seed, but keeping the cows out when it's dry is a pain. The beans and corn mix is around 20% protein. The mix feeds out of spinner feeders, and the cows don't mess with it much. We fed blackeyed peas a couple years ago, and the deer did eat it. However, when the peas got dry they split and the deer had trouble picking them up off the ground. We had a lot of waste with the peas that we have not had with the soybeans.
