Looks like Danny is offline so I'll share a positive story. The good Lord knows I've heard enough negative ones today. Sorry for the long read
I have an Army buddy, that I've known for about 15 years (i.e. we're brothers "from another mother"). I call his father "uncle." I've gone on countless fishing, canoeing, and hiking trips with these two. My uncle is a pioneer man born in the about 100 years too late. Heck this guy goes camping in the middle of January in northern Minnesota and sleeps in a snow cave at 60 years old. I really admire the "old guy" but he has the sorriest knives you've ever seen. Every year about 15 of us take a big trip to go ice fishing. Last year I spent 2 hours trying to put an edge on his Rapala fillet knife. I think he must have used that sucker to saw 16d nails or something.
SO - I decided it was time for him to have a nice knife. I pondered and then sent OKBOWHUNTER (Danny) a note and he assured me he could make a nice fillet knife. I'd seen pictures of his work but I was unsure as a custom fillet knife isn't an easy task due to the thin metal and length.
Danny endured my PM's and requests and I put down a deposit and I said no rush, I just need it by New Years. He said he'd put me on his list. Honestly, I was a little disappointed as I thought about having to wait on a list but I pulled up my big boy underoos and decided to be patient. We all know when somebody has a "waiting list" that means you ain't getting your product until just before your promised date. I guess that's to be expected when a guy does good work.
So this all happened about two weeks ago. Little to my surprise at the end of last week Danny sent me a message and said the knife was done and he'd send it out when he got back from his lease over the weekend. I wasn't expecting that knife until after Thanksgiving.
Just as promised, and before I expected, it was delivered today. It really irks me how you go to the stores today and high quality craftsmanship has been replaced by low-cost, disposable goods. Old Uncle Benny is going to be on cloud nine when I hand him that handmade knife at the cleaning table this year. Danny pulled off a great fillet knife. Thanks for the quick service and great, handcrafted, made-in-the US of A knife.
