I hunt in east Texas but I'm looking to move hunting out west and I looked on line to see what's out there, I don't fully understand how it works over there on that side. Over here on this side of Texas you pay a membership for you and your immediate family (wife and kids under 17) and it's a year round lease for camping and hog hunting in the spring and summer months. Does anyone know if there is a lease like this on the west or central side of Texas that offer the same kind? If so please let me know and maybe a name and contact number. Must be year round and family lease with or without guest for I dont really bring guest anyway.

If you find it get ready to shell out some money. I've been looking for just this same this for a few years and I just can't see paying the premiums landowners are asking...and receiving!! If East Texas was closer to me, I would get back on one of those paper company leases myself.
I'll keep you in mind if I find something.

Thanks for looking out. I don't mind paying around 2000 but I would like to keep it under $3000. Cause after fuel food and corn it will be well over 3000. Paper mills are good hunting but they clear cut mine 2 years ago and left it a mess. They just don't care to clean up after its said and done.

Most are organized based on a paying lease member + some sort of guest policy. Anyone besides the paying hunter is a guest, and they all shoot off the same "lease tags". Often guest policies will be restricted by number at once, number of visits, and maybe other restrictions such as you and all your guests can only hunting two blinds at once etc. Guest policies that aren't strict tend to be abused badly unfortunately. However yes, you can find a year round lease with a guest policy.

I used to hunt east Texas and had a "family type" lease. The members and immediate family members could each hunt and fill every tag the family had between them. Its no wonder we didn't see many deer.
This year is my first on a lease west of the I-35 corridor. In 2 weekends I have seen almost as many deer as I would in a complete season on a east Texas timber lease. The price is higher and it is worth it. It is a 5 deer county with AR, but since we have an agreement not to shoot spikes, in effect it is one buck and three does. If I bring a guest to shoot a doe it is one less I can kill. And that includes family. Most leases not in east Texas are set up the same. The member has an allotment of deer. That is all he and his guests may shoot IF guests are even allowed.
I like this set up sooooooo much better!

so what are some of the prices and acreages on thes mentioned. The 2,000 is still pretty steap in my book, but would be better than what I'm seeing. Especially when we were paying like 600-700/yr for 800 acres in E Tx.
Here's an example of what I'm talking about for rediculous
(2500 would be fine or even 4000 for the whole thing, not pp on 400 acres)

Hunting out west is completely different than east Texas. I hunt both. The better places in east Texas will still be expensive sometimes over 4k and very strict guest rules. Every place I have been on in west Texas the paying hunter only gets his allotment of deer by state law. So if it is a one buck county he can shoot one buck and two does. If he decides to bring guests then the deer the guest shoots come off his allotment. In most counties in central or west Texas you are going to have to have more acres per hunter than in east Texas. There are some landowners out there that are just looking at money and put way too many hunters on the place. Typically places in central and west Texas are harder to find especially a good place. Good look in your search. The quality and quantity of deer will vary from place to place so be careful. I have seen places in excellent counties in central and west Texas that had little to no deer on them. If a place is too good to be true than more than likely they are. Look to spend 1500-3500 for a lease in central and west Texas. Obviously the 1500 dollar places are harder to find and you get what you pay for.Last edited by aggie2000tx; 10-09-2012, 10:32 AM.

I am the lease manager for our property. we have approx. 1100 acres (8 hunters) 7 miles west of Fredericksburg Texas. No we don't have 150 inch deer, I told the new hunters if we see a 125 inch buck it will be time to have party. We have a 5 deer limit, we have all the hogs you can shoot, we have plenty of turkeys because of the live water on the place and exotics. We don't see exotics during every hunt but we usually kill 2 to 5 per year. Axis, Sika, and Black buck. The owners provide us with $200.00 of electricity a month and all the great water we can drink. We allow family guest only and they hunt off your tags. I would like to say we are bow only but I have a couple of hunters that are rifle guys. Our lease goes for $2500.00 per year with year round access. Sense I have started hunting this property I have shown it to two new hunters, they both took the spots immediately as did the original hunters. Its preimium dollars for Gillispie county but I guess we think its worth it.

I hunt in West Texas, and the land owner wants me to kill every deer I see! He has cotton, wheat, and milo.Planted every year. Some of the best dove hunting In the state.About 300 acres of mesquite, and creek bed areas. We've taken 3 really good deer in 10 yrs.(my wife, and I).I swear he'd let me hunt for free,as long as we killed a deer a day.Find a farmer in cotton country.Someone that makes their living farming, and do what you say you're gonna do and you'll be set...The "shopping basket grocery store",in Ballinger has a cork board outside, and it's loaded with farmers wanting to lease.
