    Wind Question

    Hope this isn't to confusing,

My setup... My blind is 30 yards south east of feeder. 20 yards south east of me is a railroad track and road that runs north east to south west. So, the proper time for me to hunt my stand is with north to north west winds and the deer can not wind me (or approach from south of me).

My problem... I know deer like to approach a feeder with the wind in their face. They can not do this on my set up when there is a north to north west wind. Game cam shows more deer activity at my feeder with a south wind, I guess because they can approach it safely.

Do I hunt the south wind or will they bust me guaranteed?

Disclaimer... this is the only setup I have to hunt this year.

My mesquite tree stand isn't perfect either. It's all I got though, cause I hate hunting on the ground! In the mornings I've got a little more time in the stand w/o gettin' busted, just because the S.wind's not blowing as bad, as in the eve.I've had a little success though an.d.. they always come back the next day.sometimes they're around the feeder longer than others.

do the same thing we do with the hogs when the wind is wrong... find a choke-point on their trail coming in with a south wind and setup a hasty ambush on them! if you get in early enough, I wouldn't think you would have an issue. Hogs have a surprisingly keen sense of smell and can be a booger to hunt if they're not on a feeder. Makes you a better hunter and an overall more satisfying harvest IMO.

I know I haven't ever bow hunted, but I usually hunt hogs with a .22 (we don't care about holes in the head as we don't mount and I ALWAYS have a .44 Mag on my side). I feel comfortable shooting within 50 yards and have had them run right by me at less than 10 on a regular basis. I would assume the same could be said of deer being in range of a bow on a trail. I mean hell, we are here right now, that means our ancestors must have been able to harvest a few once in a while on trails.

Move your stand WEST of the feeder. Lot more opportunities to hunt it with Texas winds.
