Here's some more information about the licenses my sister has:

They used to be issued by the Game, Fish and Oyster Commission. The buyer of the license ($2) had to sign a statement that he promised to abide by the fish and game laws. There are no tags, and on the back is what the limits are. It was an honor system that you followed. You promised not to shoot more than two deer, and no does, and you promised you would not shoot more than one bear, etc.

I've kept mine for the last 10 years or so. I do have my federal and state duck stamps from further back.

Les, that 1983 Texas duck stamp by Maynard Reece turned out to be pretty valuable in mint (unused) condition. TP&W destroyed all the unsold stamps, which meant relatively few available for collectors.

We were cleaning out the garage in an old house that my mom bought several years ago, and found an old tackle box with assorted junk in it. There were two Texas hunting licenses with Federal duck stamps attached, dated 1939 and 1941. A pretty neat find.

                  Tag soup anyone.
I dont keep the texas tags but I do have my out of state big game tags that I did not get to punch. The Alaska plastic tags are pretty cool. Thinking back I should have kept them since all mine have duck stamps. I have encourage my son to start keeping his.

                  Good idea.

I have all mine from the late 70's till now with a bunch from Canada and all over the Midwest. It's pretty cool to be able to look back and relive some of those old memories. My wife wanted me to chunk them when we moved last but I kept them and will pass them down one day. I'm keeping my son's as well as his cartridge from his first animals.

Something to ponder! Maybe I'll start saving mine.
