Had a white German Shepard bit by a water moccasin, his face was swollen so bad I thought it was going to bust. He could not see. Three days later he was fine. That was the snake killingest dog you ever seen after that. RedArrow should remember that dog. BEAR

My friend's beagle got bit on the face by a rattler and he survived. I know they took him to the vet when it happened but Im not sure what route they took. Antivenin or benedryl or what

My uncle had a dalmation that lived I want to say 18 cant remember exactly. That got bit at least 30 times during his life. We joked around and say all that snake venom was preserving him. We had a hound dog get bit on the nose several years back and he just swelled up like a balloon for a few days and then he was fine. Neighbors dogs have also been bit and they all did the same thing, swelled up and got better within a couple days. Now the cats we have had get bit didn't fair has well.

My wifes 10 pound chihuahua was hit in the jaw and survived. She wouldn't tell me how much the anti-venom cost. I am glad I don't know...

My GSP got hit by two seperate snakes (two diff. sized fang marks) in the face within minutes. The vet said he had no chance of making it and not to waste my money. We took him home and in a week he was back up and moving. It took him several weeks to fully recover but other than a bald spot on his cheek he was good as new.

I had a Rat Terrier that was bitten at least 10 different times by Copperheads and Cotton mouths. All I ever did was give him a Benedryl and a few kind words. He lived to be 13 years old!

Emergency vets are the worst. I've had 2 dogs get bit one was a jagd the other a small border collie. Both lived. On another note I ran my jagds leg over with my dually tire when he was a pup and called the emergency vet and they said " Sir you need to bring him in right away for X-rays and a cast" I said hold on it might not be broke they said a cast will help with the healing regardless. I asked how much they said 1100$ I said well I guess he better get tough and learn to run with that limp. They were very mad and yelling saying I was cruel. 2 days later he acted like nothing happened. I will never take my dog to an ER vet just my opinion they are a rip off

The vet has seen many many more snake bites than any of us and I'm sure they made the call that they thought was best. As did your parents. I'm sorry for your loss.
There is reason to second guess what condition the dog was in.

Pretty broad brush with which you are painting. Sorry about your experience. I don't think I am the "worst", though. Probably more than a few on here that would back me on that.

I had a feeling someone on here might be an ER vet. I was directing it towards the 24hr ER Vet clinic around my area Prolly should have said the ones. Speaking before thinking or speaking before reading what I'd wrote. My apologies
