Guess you could call this a rant.
Yesterday afternoon, on my way home from McAllen to Roma, I saw a mini van parked on the left shoulder of a busy express way in a construction zone. I got off the freeway and headed back to help. Parked behind them and kept my pickup partially on the fast lane to force traffic over while I did what I could. Front passenger tire was blown. Walked up to the van and noticed it was full of nuns
They were scared and didn't know they could drive on the wheel to get out of danger and one of them had already attempted to lift the van. I asked them to step out and move behind my truck while I changed out their tire.
As I was working on it, other cars were passing us on the same lane even though the other 2 were empty. Took me 5 minutes to get them going again and in that time I had 3 close calls. One was close enough that I had to turn to keep the rearview from clipping my shoulder.
To get them going again, I had to walk out to middle of the lane and force people to move over.
Please if you see a vehicle parked on the side of the road, give then a wide bearth. Not everyone knows what to do during a breakdown, but everyone should have enough common sense to separate themselves from a potentially bad scenario.
The nuns were driving from the Basilica of San Juan to their convent in Rio Grande, and I was able to follow them home. It was by the grace of God that no one was hurt.
