    Somerville WMA

Planning on hunting Somerville next season, just wondering if any TBHers have hunted it and what would the land look like, is there a good population of deer and what kind of quality is there, are there campgrounds or local hotels, hunting pressure, mosquitos, snakes? What kind of things do I need to plan for? Any and all info is appreciated. Thanx a bunch!

I have hunted hogs there. The land is wooded with some open areas. There aren't many deer and I have no idea on the quality. There is some pressure but not too much and there are way more mosquitos and snakes than deer and hunters...but still a great place to go hunting.

Haven't hunted, but fished there many times...The Hogs are tearing up the North side of the lake, my buddy seen some deer - culls and does, when he hunted a couple years back, but I'm sure there are some good ones around. Are you looking at the North side by DimeBox area ? Nails Creek part of the lake ? There are plenty of camping areas, nice parks, not too many hotels unless you go to the surounding towns. I would venture out in the WMA's for Hogs and scout out areas for the deer. I remeber him saying something about hunting the tree lines next to the open pastures. Good Luck

I hunted it last year about 10 different days. I found some deer but I'm a noob at bowhunting so i didnt get anything. The deer are really really skidish becasue of all the hunter traffic. ran into ppl a few times. not too often tho. Never saw any horns but i know theres some out there somewhere. Might be worth checking into anyway... I always went to the backside of the place and entered there. then id hike about a mile in and look around. never ran into any snakes but mosquitoes sucked bad.
