I know this sounds stupid but how do you let the rest back down without shooting, so you can get your arrow out?

Hold the cord and give it a quick tug and a small amount of slack.

There's a little extension on the bottom of the rest, just push it forward a bit and the rest will ease down

The thumb button u raised it with. Flick it or pop it with your thumb and it will go down
