Just bought a deer call that has fawn thru buck calls. How do you use your call? When in the season do you start calling? What is your preferred method? School me...
I'm no expert, but I usually only use the grunt call or a snort wheeze. You can blind grunt, or use it when you want to draw a buck closer. PAy attention to the buck after he notices you.. Sometimes they will look in your direction and carry on about their way, only to sneak up behind you. Sometimes they will come in like they are on a string. as far a doe bleats etc.. I always seem to sacre deer off when I used them.
I only use a grunt when I can see a buck, which is at least 50 yds out. Anything closer, I just wait. But one that is out there a ways, will usually come in to check me out, if he's not scent tracking for a doe.
Now when I'm up in Ks, a snort whezze is very productive, IF, the deer you snort at is mature.
As far as blind gruntin, I've never had any luck. Just only when I make visual contact on a deer that it has worked for me.
Ive called in several doe with a fawn call, but I just use my mouth, no call. These were all doe on far ends of fields or doe that I had found their fawn cutting hay and located them before releasing............of course these were all way before season starts.
Rattled in lots of small bucks from opening day thru end of season. Only rattled in one mature buck, and he was my biggest to date. And I rattled/grunted him in 3 yrs in a row from same location
