Advice on a stock for my 700 SPS Varmint

I want to get a new stock for my remington 700 sps varmint .308. Does anybody have any experience in replacing the stocks on a heavy barreled 700? Also looking for recommedations on which brand stock to switch to. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. And as a side note I dont want to break the bank. looking for something in the 3-400 range. Maybe a little more if its a good deal. Thanks GS.

HS presicion, Bell and Carlson. Top two for what I do. Go to www.stockysstocks.com. Best place to order from. And you can look at everything that is available.

Hows that varmint shoot. I have one and it hold 3/8 groups @ 100. Actually opens its own holes larger. Love that gun and dont think I am ready to improve it yet

HS precision is right in your price range. You can get a bell & Carlson for a little less and a McMillan for a little more. You get what you pay for on all three. They're all good stocks just depends on how much coin you have to donate to the project. Have you thought about a thumbhole laminate. You can get a decent one from Boyds for 100 with very little fitting work required. You can get a really BA one from Richards microfit for around 350, with a bit more work required.

Same here. Shot it at 100 sighting it in and put 3 in dime size hole. Sweet gun. Mine is topped with a 4.5X16X50 Vortex Viper. (Actually a very clear and bright scope) Stock is the only downfall. I want to add a removable clip and timney trigger as well.

I want to get whatever will be best for long range shooting. I want to hunt with this gun as well so I have to find that "medium" in between a bench stock and a sporter type. I dont personally care for thumbholes but I'm open for any opinions or considerations.

Is a laminate stock going to be accurate long range?

I have an HS on my 700 and it is a great stock. McMillan makes stocks that are considered by most to be top tier. Their price reflects that too. If you have the cash and time (wait time can be very long) they are well worth it.
