Questions: How many shots to dull broadhead and Warped Vane on arrow????

    Two questions:

    1) Is two or three shots into a McKenzie 3d target enough to dull a broadhead making it not worth using for hunting (i use Spitfire Edge and Slicks - and yes I know you can replace blades but was curious on your thoughts cause you cant sharpen them and I hate to waste them as practice blades)

    2) Had two arrows result in near pass-thrus on a 3d target today. One of the vanes on each arrow is now slightly warped/curvy/stretched (basically not perfectly upright - dont know how else to describe it). I shot them both one more time and they appear to be holding true. Your thoughts on shooting arrows with one of the three vanes like that?

    Thank you as always.

I sharpen my son's spitfire heads. You can hold the vanes over a lighter and straighten them back out but don't get them too close to the flame.

I assume if it aint broke dont fx it ?? They were stillhitting there mark but wasnt sure if they make a noise or what. Just hate to have to refletch if I dont have to. May toy around with lighter on an arrow to check it out. Havent heard of that one.

I wouldn't trust them as far as being sharp enough to harvest a deer. The wavy vanes i wouldn't worry about if they are flying good.

Seems like I've heard people talk about dipping them in Boiling water also.Maybe someone will chime in on that one.

I currently have 2 with vanes like you describe and they stack right in there with the new ones so I wouldn't worry about the vanes. Have no help with the bheads though.

Sharpen or replace. Dont shoot dull heads.

Shooting a broadhead into a target ONE time is enough not to trust it to hunt with. Don't take chances on something like that when you've got so much time and money invested in your pursuit. Especially when it's so easy to have sharp ones.

one shot into ANYTHING equals a DULL broad head.

A hairdryer will fix them wavy vanes quick fast and in a hurry. If you shot your b-heads into a target once, don't hunt with 'em 'til you sharpen or change out the blades.

make sure your broadheads are hair shavin' sharp...even pulling them in and out the quiver will dull them if they're fixed blade.

Dip vanes in boiling water , MOMENTARILY, it will take the wrinkles out.

Personally wouldn't worry about vanes. Broad heads most definitely would change or sharpen before hunting.

Most definitely would change or sharpen blades. As stated in prior posts, one shot into anything requires sharpening.
