      It depends on your school and there policies contact the AG director or teacher at the highschool you will be attending and he can get you pointed in the right direction.

        Your Ag teacher should be able to help you with that. Many schools have their own ag barn/farm for the keeping of animals for kids that don't have a place to do that.

            QuickSilver,

            As others said, get w/ the ag director on animal issues. Also, keep in mind that the FFA offers many options to get involved. I moved from Houston to East Tx before my junior year and took ag for an easy A. What I found was a place to develop leadership skills, the ability to speak to groups thru contests such as exteporaneous speaking and parlimentary procedures. Get involved with the leadership side by running for an officer position with the FFA. I showed hogs, attended leadership conferences, and was VP my senior year. I use tools I learned in FFA everyday in my career as a salesperson & in training other employees within my company.

              FFA= Fathers feeding Animals.

              As others have suggested get with your ag teacher. You don't necessarily have to have an animal as a project. Man I sure don't miss keepiong up with those record books!

                I'm with Cooter, had it not been for FFA and my teacher,Tom Howell,( shout out ) I would not be where I am today. I graduated in 1981 and the skills,friendships and experinences I learned have been carried thru out my life. My son starts next year and am really looking forward to it. Your teacher will help the whole way. Good Luck ! PS my only regret was not doing some simple paper work to get my National Farmer.

                        FFA is a great extra curricular class. I took it all four years in high school. You need to go and talk to the ag teacher about getting started with a show animal. Most of the animals will not need to be purchased until after school starts. But if you plan on showing a steer or heifer you need to make contact now.

                          I was a four year officer and it was a great experience. There is the FFA jacket that you will need to wear occasionally, but if you secure in who you are, then there should be no worry. Some people are not very secure and do not listen to them.

                            You can be in FFA and not raise an animal. There are horticulture projects you can do. Metal Shop. Get w/ your counselor at school. They will be able to fill you in. FFA is a great class. I was in it for 4 years. Good luck and remember...

                            I believe in the future of farming. With a faith born not of words, but of deeds...

                            I still have my FFA jacket w/ greenhand pin. It has really shrank in 20 years!
