I recently joined AAA so that if my wife ever has issues on the road she can get some assistance, but what are the other benefits that are good that you get the most use from?

They will come unlock your car if you lock your keys in it. They also have home and auto insurance.

I have used there trip planning services. We were taking a road trip from Tucson to Vegas, and we were both not to familar with the drive. Got us discounts on the car and hotel if i recall correctly.

My wife has used their "fix a flat" service more times than I can count. A buddy also used the come out and jump your vehicle service.

there is an app that finds the closest places to you with aaa discounts.

They just towed my truck and trailer (25,000 pounds total) 100 miles when we got some bad fuel. That would have been a $400 bill.

Cool thing is, they will even come tow the car you are riding in, even if you don't own it.

I unfortunately don't have very good things to say about their auto/home insurance.
Their customer service on the insurance side is unbelievably bad.

Do you have to use AAA to book the hotel or just mention it when booking directly?

There is a Iphone app for AAA that is great. I've used it, never spoke to anyone, and had a tow truck there in 30 minutes. Don't even need to know where you are, it locates you through the gps. I think you want the plus coverage for towing back to your requested shop, not just the closest one.

It just so happens I work for AAA: discounts all over (automotive shops, rental cars, hotels, restraunts, AT&T...etc), travel, insurance discounts, so much feel free to go into a branch office and talk to someone about all the benefits

Funny that you say that. The insurance is the main reason that I joined, and I've been very pleased. I got better coverage for a lower premium, and have been pleased when I've needed to make a claim.
