Computer Gurus need Help

I just got me a Dell Lap top and have a question about internet connections. When I am at the office I can get the internet but at home I can't. Someone told me I need a router or something.

Pick a provider that's known for good service in the area of kansas your going.

That is what you need then. You can get them for about 70 bucks I think. Without it, it's impossible to connect to the Internet via the wireless integrated card. You can always connect using the cable though.

If you don't already have a wireless router, you will need one of those. Also make sure your wireless is turned on on your laptop. You can use the wizard in Windows to help you get it connected once you get a router.

if you are going to be in the middle of no where, no built-in wireless card will help you. You are going to need what is called a "wireless air card" which is a cell phone for your laptop, and most places offer per megabyte contract on an anual basis. think long nad hard about how often you plan on using it because we pay 79.99 for unlimited access monthly for the first year only so it will eat up your budget fast.

if you are trying to connect to someone else's wireless DSL/cable service, all you need is an unsecure connection or their WEP to access the secured connection with your built-in wireless card.

Does your Dell laptop have factory-installed wireless 802.11? I'd assume all do now.

Start=> Connect to => Show all Connections (if you need it).

i just got a AT&T wireless air card with unlimited for 59.99. If I can work it anybody can.
