Just took the CHL renewal..Can someone tell me why..

they require you to do another set of fingerprints? Do fingerprints change?

Really, all we did was talk about a few new laws, shoot, fill out paperwork for an hour, and the rest of the time we talked about "what if" scenarios..(which I cannot stand due to many variables).

The guy that taught our last renewal clas said the fingerprint requirement had to do with the life of the image on the paper....and that when everything got converted to digital that the requirement would go away.

Didn't make a lot of sense to me....but that's what he said.

the renewal is just another way to keep money coming in. They do keep you up with any new laws but that is about all.

I wonder if you buck up and spend the money to do the digital fingerprints if they will drop the renewal requirement? BTW, I think that would be a bad idea I'm all for a yearly CE class to carry, but I just wonder if that will do away with the requirement.

I got the TWIC card in my renewal pack, really did'nt even read it until after my prints were taken. I would of preferred to do that in lieu of ink prints.

TWIC = Transportation Worker Identification Card

Due to 9/11, for those that work in airlines, etc. Now it's expanded to include people that work in critical industries. I work in a refinery so will be getting one because we have access to ships and other things that would "blow up real good".
