Buck in Velvet...Will he rut?

I'm seeing a buck that yet to shed velvet. Assuming he carries velvet into the season, will he rut like the rest of the bucks? Will he use his antlers as if they were hard horned like rubbing trees and fighting?

Still early he will rub.....horns are hard under there by now anyway

Are you sure he is a "he". If he has his jewels he should shed but if he is a she, she wont rub but she could still be bred.

I have seen bucks in velvet the first of October here in North Texas.
