    Putting on String Leaches

I bought some of the Sims String Leaches last night and went to put them on my bow and am unable to get them in the string. I dont have a bow press so there is no way to get the tension off the string enough to slide them in. Any ideas........I didnt want to pry on the string with anything and risk cutting it or putting any abrasions in it.

Chad you could get them put on at Sullivan's or if you had time to run out here I could put them on. I'm working around the place today. I know it's a drive but if you can't get it done at Sullivan's I could take a few minutes to do it. My cell in on and I'm carrying it today.

I might take you up on that next week some time if you dont mind. I dont have time to do it today and I am heading out tomorrow. It shouldnt make a difference for this weekend, as it is just another accessory I am adding. Thanks for the offer Bill.

I've used a 5/16" dowel rod before. Use a belt sander or whittle one end into a wedge, with a moderate angle....ease it between the strands.

There is a way you can do it if you use the buddy system. Draw the bow the full draw which will give you the let-off on the string tension that you need. While at full draw, have a buddy spread the strands with his fingers and insert the leaches and then let the bow down slowly. This also works for installing peep sights. Good luck.

That is what I do when I don't have a bow press. You'll be working with a string that only has about 10 pounds on it. Just be careful and don't damage the string.

I might have to try the "buddy system" approach Thursday night when I get to the lease. Thanks guys.

I had sting leeches but my bow spits them out on a regular basis( Reflex Timberwolf w/ slam and1/2 cams) I talked to my bow repair guy and he has a pile of them that have been taken out at customers request..putting good o'le fashioned cat whiskers on..no problems since

if you use the buddy system and get them in, i second the serve them in. keeps them from flying out after a few shoots. i've even used dental floss to serve with in a pinch. black marker so your buddies don't harrass.

With the STS on it the bow string shouldn't recoil close enough to the cables to cause breakage.

I agree with furhunter on serving and also if you cut some moleskin and wrap it around the area that the string contacts for the full length before you stick it in it will extend the life. I never had one break after I started doing this.

I use the buddy system with a screw drive with a pice of rubber fule line over it to keep from scratching the bow up. I draw and have a buddy put the screwdriver in the cam so when I let down it will not go all the way down. Thus leaveing the string loose with out the fear of letting go while some one has there fingers in the string. Just my .02
