    2008 Chevy 2500 speaker question

My driver side door speaker is cutting out. It works just fine one day and other days it's intermittent or just doesn't work at all. Very frustrating. The door chime is through the speaker and when I put the key in the ignition, if I don't hear the chime, I know the speaker isn't working.

Anyone have this problem, or have any ideas for me?

My dad had the same problem with his truck as well as another friend of mine. On my dads they ended up replacing the speaker but that it was caused by loose connectors in the speaker its self. His would cut on and off on rough roads or when you turned as well. After that one started doing it the passenger wasn't far behind. It was the same problem. Hope you get it resolved.

Ha, I'm doing the same project right now. My back driver is out and the bass and what-not is out in my driver front door. The good thing is that the chime doesn't work but I'm going to go ahead and change out all 4 speakers. Doing a little performance upgrade. I got two speakers tonite and took the driver door panel off to see what I was getting into. It was kinda a chore to do but now that I know what all screws to take out and what to unplug, it shouldn't be that bad. Gimme a sec and I'll post a link on a how to that helped me get started.

Silverado, Sierra & Fullsize Pick-ups - 1999-2005 Silverado front speaker replacement - it is very easy to do, but just in case: http://i40.tinypic.com/1zeyvxw.jpg 1. Remove plastic triangle behind the mirror, it pries out. Carefully, it's only plastic. I have all holes packed with foam for rattle reduction....

Mine is a 05 and I didn't register the body style difference for yours being an 08. But this may get you in the right direction.

Just had this problem. $38.00 at the dealer is the only fix.

So internal wiring within the speaker? Or the wiring going to the speaker?

Also hogman, what did the $38 buy at the dealer?

The truck was under warranty and the dealer said inside the problem was inside the speakers. I didn't pull it apart myself so I can't 100% be sure. Seems like a bunch Chevy trucks in 07 and 08 had this problem.

My 08 1500 had 3 of the 4 speakers go out. Common problem with the 08s

The sealer for the door. It fixed all the issues that I was having( chime, bass etc). The dealer told me that this is common issue. He also stated the wiring is never a problem.

The speaker assembly is all one piece. It's a pain getting it out and putting it back.
