No trail cameras for me this year.

I got burnt out trying to decide which spot to hunt after looking at 4 different cameras last year. It took all of the fun out of it, especially when the bucks on the camera never showed up. I did much better when I just hung a set and let Lady Luck shine on me. So, this year I will go back to the way it was and just have fun enjoying nature and the excitement of not knowing what will show up.

Good on you! I've often thought about doing it as well. I didn't even own a game cam until 3 years ago. Now I have 4.

Doing the same thing this year. I checked my feeder this weekend. All the corn was picked up but a few kernels. Some good tracks and trails under it. Going back to simpler times and just seeing what shows up.

I've been thinking of doing this also. But I still have cams out so all I've done is think about it.

there's a lot of truth to that. IT seems the trail cameras take some of the excitement out of seeing a deer in person for the first time. even worse... I have one deer in particular that I have several hundred photos of in different areas, but I'venever seen him in person in 3 years.

We have agreed to shut the cameras off opening weekend. It takes too much of the fun out of hunting.

Well last season I watched and fed a nice buck from June all the way til the opening morning of youth season.

Thats when a kid on the ranch next door shot him and he scored 152" Kid lopped his antlers off and didnt even mount him or put them on a plaque or anything.

That was one of the nicest deer we'd ever seen and this year I just wasnt going to get my hopes up again.

Totally agree with you. I will have to say I run camera's, but have always wondered why. Is it really hunting if I can tell you what deer at what time will show up and eat or if there is a group of bucks coming every morning to feed. I know it always doesn't work out like this but early season it often does. I find myself hunting more on stands with no cameras just for the surprise of what may show up.

I scout looking for sign. Setup the area I found, use camera. And stay in the area year after year. I have 2 spots I hunt. Don't move around but in the area just to get close to travel path of where I see them moving through during hunting season.

I'm doing the same thing. Watched a nice buck all through velvet last year, next time I saw him was on my neighbors Facebook page. I would of rather not seen it at all. Will see what happens.

...I just ordered 3 more cameras to add to my already ridiculous collection... got a few places I want to check out that I don't have covered yet. I guess if I lived closer to my hunting grounds, I'd probably back off too, but it's 6 hours drive time for me, so I'll continue to "scout" with my cameras... was thinking about getting me one of those fancy texting cameras, but haven't pulled the trigger on that one yet... Heck, most of my cameras take thousands of pics in a month, and I sure don't need to be getting no 1000+ text messages a month from a camera...

Yea, I'm just keeping it simple too...

Doing the same thing. Never see the deer I end up shooting anyway.

My buddy did it. He paints for a local dealership. I bought the paint and supplies, prepped all of the tins, and then delivered him the goodies. All he had to do was paint it. Cost me $150 It is nice to have good friends
