I have always worried about one rusting out in the elements.

Looks like a great idea. Only problem I could think of would be the hoist seizing up after awhile being in the weather.

we have been using them for years on one of our leases. We cut a small hole in a 5 gallon bucket, feed the top chain through and it serves as a water shield.

we take the chain and wrap it around one of the legs and bungee cord it off so it doesnt clang around all the time. expensive up front but pretty handy to be able to fill feeders when alone.

That's a great idea! I've got a brand new chain hoist sitting in my attic..

would have never thought, Im building a feeder right now and was just looking around for ideas. I can pick up a 1 ton unit for $40 bucks give or take. Just a brake winch is that much alone or more.

I use these on my feeders.

They are loud but i trust them a lot more than i do the winches.

Ive had mine up for about 7 years and no problems yet.

Im In the Hill country, if i was near the coast i go with something else.
