Well the near beginning of a new deer season brings lots of memories to mind. One that always seems to find the way to the front is "rattle bug in the blind".
My first hunt in October of 2009 proved to be one I'll never forget. I arrived at the blind before daybreak did my normal checks and got settled in. Had a good hunt and decided to head back to camp about 10am. I stood up in the blind and moved my chair to the side to clear the path to the zipper opening. I'm hunting in a ground blind as y'all well know has no floor. All is good until I reach down to grab my backpack off the ground (I normally set the backpack in the other chair). i know he was not there when I set the bag down. This is the reason I'll never forget this hunt.
I'm not sure which of us was stunned the most but I can tell you who was closest to crapping their camos. So as I step back the Rattle bug decides to move toward the only exit door. Now what? So after what seems to be half an hour (only about two min.) I realize the only weapon I have besides my bow is the chair. So after a bit of planning and taking a few pics, I fold the chair so that all 4 feet are bunched together, I raised the chair and carefully positioned it over the snakes head and WHACK! OH CRAP I MISSED! Needless to say I was not going to miss again.
Be careful out there guys and gals. Enjoy your season.
