    Rattle Bug in the Blind!!!!

Well the near beginning of a new deer season brings lots of memories to mind. One that always seems to find the way to the front is "rattle bug in the blind".

My first hunt in October of 2009 proved to be one I'll never forget. I arrived at the blind before daybreak did my normal checks and got settled in. Had a good hunt and decided to head back to camp about 10am. I stood up in the blind and moved my chair to the side to clear the path to the zipper opening. I'm hunting in a ground blind as y'all well know has no floor. All is good until I reach down to grab my backpack off the ground (I normally set the backpack in the other chair). i know he was not there when I set the bag down. This is the reason I'll never forget this hunt.

I'm not sure which of us was stunned the most but I can tell you who was closest to crapping their camos. So as I step back the Rattle bug decides to move toward the only exit door. Now what? So after what seems to be half an hour (only about two min.) I realize the only weapon I have besides my bow is the chair. So after a bit of planning and taking a few pics, I fold the chair so that all 4 feet are bunched together, I raised the chair and carefully positioned it over the snakes head and WHACK! OH CRAP I MISSED! Needless to say I was not going to miss again.

Be careful out there guys and gals. Enjoy your season.

Your welcome. It's the least I could do. Please just don't ask me to do it again. Once is is enough.

I have nightmares of that happening.. I think I would probably just jump through the top of blind or get knife out and cut me a new door.

I've always been worried about this happening. This year I built a floor now they can't get it

a couple of years ago we were checking trail cameras and my son saw a snake (and he hates them) go into the ground blind, needless to say he would not get in that blind again until I took it down, and showed him there was no snake. Glad that fella didn't get you before you could hammer him

                Been there once.

In the dark, pig hunting, in a buddies pop up blind.

Heard all this noise and thought it was something bout to come into the feeder.

An hour goes by of me patiently silently waiting with the noise just out of sight... Then bam it strikes the inside of the blind.

I turn my hat light on to see a 3.5 foot rattler looking back at me, between me and the door flap. I drew from the opposite corner all bunched up and hit him mid body. Slices through and he's off in a flash...

I un zip the door in a hurry to find him and finish him off.... There he is coiled up at the base of the door... Dang near stepped on him. Muzzy 3 blade sticks him head first into the ground and he's done.

Also had a porcupine give birth in the tree above me the same night... About an hour after the rattler incident... No pigs ever came in.

That is scary, I bury the skirt of the ground blind in dirt for the very reason right there. The idea for that is that critters like that can't slither in under the blind with the skirt covered up by dirt.
                  Its worked so far.....

That's CRAZY! Why was he striking the side of the blind?

Good idea. My "ground" blind is now on an 8ft platform. Thanks to Keep.

I figured all that noise i thought was pigs or coons coming to the feed was actually a mouse in the blind with me and the rattler...

After many years of hunting without hearing protection my hearing plus tenitous i have trouble figuring exactly where sounds come from...

But when i turned the light on all i saw was a diamond back staring up at me about 1 foot off the ground... Head and body pointed straight at me... About 10 inches from my chair zoning in on my butt/ left thigh...
