Ebay is a start. Look at the 3Rivers website and Kustom King Archery site. They usually have some inexpensive bows in thier catalog.

When it comes to traditional bows, you really can't trust ebay. Most people are trying to get rid of something that they know nothing about. Alot of those bows are old junky things that someone found in an attic or garage sale, and have just cleaned then up a bit to fool you and make money off of your ignorace. Try your local pawn shops, you'll atleast get a look at their bow before you buy. If there is an archery club near you, then I would definately ask around there. Some people have old recurves (like the ones that are sold on ebay), but you'll probably be dealt with alot more fairly this way. If all else fails, try the classifieds on here, and be sure to check out the other traditional archery websites. www.tradgang.com has a HUGE classified section just for bows. Put an ad on there, tell them your age, and what you're wanting; you may find somebody that will give you a bow for free (it actually happens every so often).

Be careful on Ebay. Some of the recurves are older and not in the best of shape. Sellers tend to not tell you that "oh, by the way, my son dry fired this bow a couple of times before I decided to sell it".

I have heard more than one horror story of cracked or split limbs on recurves bought through Ebay.

TXbk, I'd look at AMO 48"-58" bows because of your shorter draw length, actual bow length when strung is about three inches shorter. The Browning Wasp & Nomad Stalker or a Red Wing Hunter.

You might post this on the Traditional section as well. Here's a couple links from eBay for reference. I've bought over 100 recurves on ebay and have not had a problem.

You can usually find a good, used custom bow online for about the same money you'd spend on a production line type of bow at BPS/Cabela's.

Check out the classifieds on here, Tradgang.com and Stickbow.com. Most of these guys wouldn't sell anyone damaged goods...I've bought every tradbow I've owned off someone here on TBH or on E-bay and they've all been in great shape.

E-bay can be good too. I've bought 2 bows there that were each over 20 years old (each less than $100). The key to bidding here is only bid on bows that have good pics and check out the seller. Check his comments from other transactions, check to see if he regularly sells archery equipment and ask him questions...you'll be able to tell if he knows what he's talking about or if he's just re-selling something he picked up at a garage sale and has no idea about it's condition.

Good luck shopping and have fun when you get one.

Like Joey said, check out the product and the seller thoroughly. Send the seller e-mails asking questions if need be.

I just got a sweet shooting 30 yo Pearson off of eBay. The seller had good feedback and posted lots of pics. His comments gave me the impression that he knew bows, too.

Check craigslist too, recurves appear on the one out here on a regular basis.

40# is a good 1st bow, I still have my first recurve, 41# I bought with my own $ 40 years ago this year.

I'll call a couple of local bow shops, tell them you are 12 and spending your own money to get started in archery, can they help you out with a used recurve they may have leaning against a wall somewhere in the back of the shop.

You'd be amazed what you can get if you ask nicely.
