How to hunt and what to expect

Kimble County, lots of flat land with mequite everywhere.

How would you bow hunt it? What would you expect if so flat that you could see each others deer rifle stands?

Do you setup in a tall mesquite brush or setup in a tent? Do deer use flat land with lots of mesquite?

find a travel area and set up a feeder and brush in a pop=up blind.

hunt in natural funnels. trails. staging areas. the deer do still eat with or without feeders. find out where and the trails they take and place your feeder in the best spot you can make it easier to hide a blind. deer dont mind walking out in the open if they havent been heavily hunted. there are alot of deer in that area. and some good ones too. have you scouted it yet? to find out where the deer go and how? first thing i would do right there.

We signed the lease on Wednesday at 5pm. I had to be back in Houston for work Thursday. So we didn't have time to scout it. There are 3, 100 acre oat patches supplied with water using a pin wheel. They said it draws about 30-40 deer in that field but they are usually coming from across the road. I can't setup on the fence because of it.

I guess I just have to scout it out and see what I can do. There are trails going everywhere on it. So I'm just looking for a spot that has the most sign I guess. That mesquite is pretty thick in some areas and open fields in others.

We'll have to wait and see.

Here's a distant picture of one of the oat patches.

I'd hate for that thing to come on. It would ruin my whole day!

                      It's off of 377 on the mason/menard side I think that's south I guess.

If Llano State Park is on one side of I-10 this property is on the opposite.

to put things in perspective 385 goes to harper and 385 goes to 377 that's close to where it's at.

just wait till that double bull hay bale ground blind comes out. then just set it right out in the middle of that field. well, maybe not. but that thing looks like it will work everywhere.

There's a lot of cows that hang out in those oat patches. I may end up having to donkey punch a couple or possibly get trampled in the process.

I still have a bit of anxiety, about the place cause 1) it's my first deer lease I've paid for and 2) I'm used to a lot of tall acorns, and cedars.

So all this low mesquite is kind of scaring me specially when in one of the tower blinds you can see like 6 blinds.

man, ground blind it. try hog hunting or setting up in a blind after scouting just to practice. you got 8 months to get it right. imho

No pigs on the place. It would be nice if there were some though.

The manager said whittails out the wazoo and few exotics some turkey's and no pigs.

I thought this was texas and pigs were everywhere? It would be nice to run across one though.
