I remember when a canvasback weren't legal, mallard hens were 100 points, and everything else was 30 points. Three duck max limit. I only duck hunted a couple of years.

We did this at the Lance Rosier unit of the Big Thicket for 10 years or better. I also recall killing quite a few small hogs with #4 lead.

you guys stop....you're making me feel nostalgic (sniff)

Me too. Well, that and the taste of duck. I remember a mallard hen being 90 points and a drake 10 though.

I grew up hunting Arkansas, points were a little different.
The good part was we hunted with lead shot

I am pretty sure that you still have to ID your ducks on the fly, there might not be points but you are still limited on how many of each species you can take. Take last year for example you could have 6 total with any combination of 5 mallards, 2 pintails, 2 redheads, 1 canvasback, 3 woodies, or 6 of any other species. So you still have to pay attention to what you are shooting, and if you can not ID the birds in flight then you do not need to be hunting ducks.

I remember, shortly there after steel shot was required and it jammed my old gun. I quit hunting ducks for a long time after that.

we would quail hunt just above the flood control lake where we duck hunted. i was using my old model 37 featherlight 20 ga with the poly choke on negative, loaded with field load 8s when i flushed a group of 5 woodies. one shot into the middle of the group of 5, while trying for a mountable drake put me well over the limit. when my dad found me searching the edge of the beaver pond, he asked how many i had killed. my answer of three floored him as i wasn't one to shoot quail on the ground. when i responded by pulling 2 woodies out of my vest and requesting help with the third not yet found, he was even more shocked. since we had killed one short of 4 limits earlier, i had agreed to try for a woodie. it would have been difficult to believe had we been stopped, but it was the honest truth.
