Why does the south zone dove season open later?

Is it just because of migration timing? I've never been told why, so I thought I'd pick the brains of the GS.

In the first season it only runs four days longer than the central and north zones, but we get about four weeks in the second season.

It is so the birds can fly through the South to the North without stress

Supposed to be because the birds further south nest later.

Leftover politics from years ago, they had too much money tied up in the rgv whitewing industry so they rgv got a 2 week earlier season to sell ammo rooms beer and whitening leasees. Kinda like Tilden aka McMullen county had 1st deer season opener. Now so much brush cleared in Mexico and the valley there are more birds in city limits of San antonio and Austin than On ranches.

The GW told me it was because of $$$$ if it opened up here in the south no one would travel to hunt doves in the valley. (or anywhere else) i think he is right.

Because if it opened earlier in the south it might scare all the birds back north, and then they'd all freeze to death and die and we'd never have another dove season EVER again.

So they can disperse game wardens more efficiently!
